Registration Tips & Hints
How to Identify Prerequisites for Courses
Before you register for a class, check the course catalog to see if it has a prerequisite. A prerequisite is something you must complete before you can take the course.
Know what can count as a prerequisite
The easiest way to meet a prerequisite is to take the required course at STLCC. You may also be able to meet it by submitting a current class schedule or transcript from another college, or by petitioning for Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) (PDF) through a department chair. In some cases, qualifying AP scores may also count.
While we strive to make all content accessible, these older PDF documents may not fully comply with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. To request a paper copy or an accessible format, please reach out to the access office.
Talk with an academic advisor
An academic advisor can help you understand prerequisites, review transfer credit and figure out whether you are eligible to register for a course.
Take a placement test if needed
Some classes require you to show reading or math readiness before you can register. You can do this by taking the STLCC placement test. You may not need placement testing if you already have qualifying ACT scores. A score of 18 or higher on the reading and English sections meets the reading requirement, and a math score of 22 or higher can waive math placement testing.
