Student Support Services

Stay engaged and finish your degree with Student Support Services. As a part of the program, we’ll help you build confidence and persistence through:

  • Academic Advising - Let us assist you in selecting the right courses to fit your career and/or transfer plans. Our advisors will help you identify helpful electives, required courses and prerequisites that will help you reach your goal.
  • Tutoring - Receive one-on-one tutoring or preference when scheduling a session at our TRIO tutoring centers for free.
  • Paying for college - Let us make college even more affordable by helping you find and apply for aid, grants and scholarships.
  • Career exploration - Let us help you explore your potential by connecting you to career resources.
  • Personal assistance - This service guides you through the stressful parts of college with advice on time and money management, stress reduction, conflict resolution, leadership skills and teamwork development.
  • Academic assistance - We’re here to help you master the art of being a student. We can help you improve your note-taking, test preparation and exam skills.
  • Transfer planning - This is just your beginning. Come meet with an advisor for help planning your next step and creating a seamless transition to a four-year university.

Frequently Asked Questions

To receive services from TRIO Student Support Services, a student must be:

  • A US Citizen or permanent resident
  • Enrolled in a two-year degree program at St. Louis Community College
  • Meet one or more of the following criteria:
    • Be a first-generation college student (neither parent has a bachelor’s degree)
    • Have limited income (according to federal guidelines) Pell Grant Eligible
    • Have a documented disability & registered with the ACCESS office

Students interested in the program who meet the eligibility criteria can complete our online application. Once we review your application, a TRIO staff member will contact you to schedule a TRIO new student orientation.

There is no cost to participate in TRIO services or events. TRIO SSS programs are fully funded by the U.S. Department of Education and St. Louis Community College.

Students who utilize TRIO Student Support Services receive individualized support, guidance, and a sense of belonging. TRIO SSS provides academic advising, transfer planning, financial aid and scholarship assistance, FAFSA completion assistance, financial literacy programming, tutoring and mentoring services, and academic success workshops.

TRIO staff will provide possible links, videos, and materials for students to access from home. Students will be able to email and contact staff to clarify any questions, concerns or ideas.

TRIO students can access TRIO tutoring, advising and additional services via email, phone, and each program’s Blackboard Collaborate page. Contact your TRIO Advisor for more information!

The U.S. Department of Education funds three TRIO Student Support Services programs at St. Louis Community College in the following amounts:

  • Florissant Valley is funded totaling $275,086 each grant year.
  • Forest Park is funded totaling $253,769 each grant year.
  • Meramec is funded totaling $253,491 each grant year.
