One Drive for Business

OneDrive for Business is cloud storage solution integrated with all other Office 365 offerings. It offers secure, cloud-based storage that lets you seamlessly collaborate and access files from anywhere in the world, at any time. With options to view files on both desktop and mobile, OneDrive helps you stay connected no matter where you are.

Each user gets 1 TB cloud storage. The maximum amount of individual items (files, folders, etc.) you can sync is 20,000 if you use the OneDrive app on your desktop.

Office365 is a cloud-based services which includes services such as email, calendering, Skype for Business, SharePoint Online and an online version of Office 365 for Word, Excel, PowerPoint. SharePoint is a collaboration site where you can collaborate on a document with your colleagues across departments. It can be used in the same way we used shared drive.

Yes! The OneDrive for Business App provides syncing files from your OneDrive account to a OneDrive folder on your desk and provides the ability to back up your computer into your OneDrive account. How are the instructions on how to do both steps.

Files aren't shared by default. When you upload a file to OneDrive, only you can see it until you share it with another user or group.

Sharing and collaborating on a document can be very beneficial but remember what is in the document before sharing. All College policies need to be followed before sharing a document out.

Remember:

  • Share files with specific individuals, never with “everyone” or the “public”.
  • Be careful sending links to shared folders because they can often be forwarded to others who you did not provide access to.
  • Remember that once a file is shared with someone and they download it to their device, they can share it with others.

If you upload a file in the Shared with Everyone folder, all faculty and staff at STLCC can see it.

There will be a small red icon next to the file name

Hover the mouse over the document name. You will see a notice about the document containing sensitive information.

Click the "View policy tip" link.

The policy tip will tell you which policies the file is conflicting with.

The management of your files is up to your department. Keep in mind that the files you upload are associated with your STLCC account. So, if you don't share them with other users before you leave, the files may be inaccessible.

If you delete a file stored in OneDrive, it will be in your OneDrive recycle bin for 30 days. After that, it is gone. IT support cannot recover items for you. There is no back-up.

You may see multiple options in Windows Explorer depending on what applications are installed on your computer. To save a file to OneDrive for Business, choose the OneDrive for Business option.
