Career & Industry Track Programs for High School Students
EMBARK - Bioscience
Credential: Life Science Lab Assistant Certificate
Offered through Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics
Embark is a dual credit/enrollment program created by St. Louis Community College and the Danforth Center, focused on preparing high school students to earn a Life Science Lab Assistant (LSLA) certificate by high school graduation.
Students who graduate from the program are prepared for work in bioscience laboratories and are well positioned to continue on to bioscience and biotechnology 2- and 4-year degrees.
Eligibility Requirements:
- High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors
- Cumulative, unweighted GPA 2.0+
- Placement into college-level reading and math
*Students wishing to begin during senior year must have completed BIO 111 or AP Biology
(Exam score of 3+).
Nursing Scholars
Coursework Towards: Associate in Applied Science ,Nursing
Offered through Health Professions
Benefits: Guest speakers, facility tours, and networking in field of nursing
Nursing Scholars is a dual credit/dual enrollment pathway focused on preparing high
school students to enter the Nursing Associate in Applied Science program. Nursing
Scholars complete up to seven of the prerequisite courses required for entry into
the Nursing AAS program. Students who continue at STLCC after high school graduation
and successfully complete the Nursing AAS program’s entry requirements will receive
guided student support to make a seamless transition into the Nursing, AAS program.
Eligibility Requirements:
- High school juniors, and seniors
- Cumulative, unweighted GPA 2.6+
- Placement into college-level reading and math
Precision Machining
Credential: Certificate of Specialization (CS), Precision Machining
Offered through Advanced Manufacturing, Industrial Occupations & Transportation
The precision machining technology (PMT) program is now available to second-semester high school seniors through dual enrollment. This program prepares students for entry-level jobs in the machine tool trade. Students will learn to safely set up and operate milling machines, lathes, grinders and drill presses. They will also learn the basics of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine setup and operation. Graduates will be prepared for immediate employment.
