Career & Industry Tracks for High School Students

EMBARK - Bioscience

Credential:Life Science Lab Assistant Certificate 
Offered through  Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics

Embark is a dual credit/enrollment program created by St. Louis Community College and the Danforth Center, focused on preparing high school students to earn a Life Science Lab Assistant (LSLA) certificate by high school graduation.

Students who graduate from the program are prepared for work in bioscience laboratories and are well positioned to continue on to bioscience and biotechnology 2- and 4-year degrees. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors
  • Cumulative, unweighted GPA 2.0+
  • Placement into college-level reading and math

*Students wishing to begin during senior year must have completed BIO 111 or AP Biology
(Exam score of 3+).

Nursing & Health Science Scholars

Coursework Towards:Clinical Laboratory Technology, AAS; Dental Hygiene, AAS; Nursing, AASOccupational Therapy Assistant, AAS; Physical Therapist Assistant, AAS; Respiratory Care, AAS; Respiratory Care, BS; Surgical Technology, AAS
Offered through Health Professions
Benefits: Guest speakers, facility tours, and networking in nursing and health science professions.

The Nursing and Health Science Scholars program provides high school students with the opportunity to get a head start on completing pre-entry and program requirements for STLCC nursing and health science programs. Students will work closely with an STLCC academic advisor to complete 12 or more credit hours toward their intended degree path. NHS Scholars will also receive support in applying to one of STLCC’s selective admissions programs.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • High school juniors, and seniors
  • Cumulative, unweighted GPA 2.6+
  • Placement into college-level reading and math

NHSS Core Courses:

  • BIO 111: Introductory Biology
  • ENG 101: College Composition I
  • Math course (depends on student placement)
  • PSY 200: General Psychology or SOC 101: Introduction to Sociology

Precision Machining

Credential: Certificate of Specialization (CS), Precision Machining 
Offered through Advanced Manufacturing, Industrial Occupations & Transportation

The precision machining technology (PMT) program is now available to second-semester high school seniors through dual enrollment. This program prepares students for entry-level jobs in the machine tool trade. Students will learn to safely set up and operate milling machines, lathes, grinders and drill presses. They will also learn the basics of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine setup and operation. Graduates will be prepared for immediate employment.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • High school seniors
  • Cumulative, unweighted GPA 2.0+
  • Placement into college-level reading

Getting Started Checklist

New Students Only:

  • Apply: Head to stlcc.edu/apply to complete the admissions application. This involves creating an Archer Application account and an application for your semester of enrollment.
  • Get Connected: Once you receive an email titled "Admissions to St. Louis Community College" with your Student ID A-Number, set up your MYSTLCC ID and password by visiting stlcc.edu/getconnected.

For New and Current Students:

  1. Complete the Career and Industry Tracks Commitment Form.
  2. Submit Supplemental Items: Work with your high school counselor to submit the following documents electronically to dcep@stlcc.edu:
    1. High School Transcript
    2. Dual Enrollment Authorization Form (Required Each Semester): This form needs your parent/guardian's email address and the email address of the high school official approving your STLCC enrollment.
  3. Next Steps Email: The Coordinator of Sponsored High School Programs will contact you with personalized next steps to ensure you're on track to complete your chosen program.
