Preferred Name

Students may use preferred first and middle names at STLCC.

Preferred first and middle names are used on class rosters, Canvas, email, diplomas and other locations where the legal name is not required. If you have legally changed your name, please update your record with STLCC.

Where Will My Name Display?

  • Canvas // Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Class Rosters
  • Diplomas
  • Email

  • Official Transcript
  • Financial Aid Documentation and Correspondence
  • 1098-T Tax Form

Steps to Update to Preferred Name for Students

  • Check your my.STLCC.edu email
  • You will receive the below email to confirm the accuracy of the requested change. Select View Request. Preferred name email
  • Scroll to the bottom and select Approve or Decline.
    • The Registrar's Office will update all approvals in Banner within 2 business days.

  • Check your my.STLCC.edu email to receive your updated user name and email address.
